Lucia Graham
A sculptural piece that will be used as a place to reflect and remember Sir Ian Athfield. Inspired by Wabi Sabi design principles, the rough edge of the Oamaru stone to celebrate the imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. The raw look of the stone is then juxtaposed with thin 3mm plates of blackened steel to provide a place to perch.
Athfield house has had a number of different iterations through the years however the component that still runs strong is the white plaster, the Oamaru Stone was meant to mimic this look while at the same time bringing in a different material with a different tactile experience for the user.
