The design was inspired by Sir Ian Athfield’s playfulness and incorporates various design cues from his Khandallah house such as circular skylights and recycled wooden planks. Utilising the corner of the site, an elongated bench was designed to dissuade people from falling off the site accidentally. The site informed a decision to create the corner so that little children would not fall. Incorporating a back helped to address this precaution as well as transforming it into a resting bench that users can lean on when they reach the halfway point. Separating the bench into three pieces was a decision made early on to help with the transportation and construction on- site, which would otherwise be quite difficult.

The ends of the bench are sporadic to convey a sense of chaos within formality. The length is undefined, only that it has a minimum and maximum length because it does not change the outlook whether there are more planks or fewer planks that are longer or shorter. The bench uses geometric characters to challenge different perspectives, something that would not have been easy to do with curved lines.
